Great Southwestern Construction, Inc. provides a full range of electrical construction services to utilities, municipalities, government entities and private developers throughout the nation for transmission lines, distribution systems, communication systems, substations and renewable energy facilities. In addition, Great Southwestern also provides capabilities in pre-construction, Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) and design-build forms of project delivery, project controls and reporting, environmental compliance and quality assurance/quality control.


Ensure successful project completion through all project lifecycle phases.  Plan, direct, control, and budget assigned projects in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures, industry standards, and best practices.  Work closely with the Construction Manager, Pre-Construction Team and Project Controls on assigned projects.  Effectively communicate the progress of the project to various levels within the Company as well as to customer organizations. The Project Manager is responsible for general coordination, facilitation and completion of various medium and high voltage electrical EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) projects, for our large project (EPC) division. The project manager will oversee EPC projects from proposal development, to initiation, execution, through closeout.  A successful candidate will be able to manage a variety of project types on time, within budget and within scope. Prior experience with transmission line and/or substation projects is required.

  • Lead proposal development efforts, as well as project coordination after project has been awarded.
  • Preparation and management of EPC project schedules, utilizing critical path method, baseline tracking, and resource loading of manhours.
  • Submission of request for information to clients
  • Acting as main point of contact for projects and facilitating conference calls
  • Coordinate and lead meetings, scheduling updates, submitting deliverables, and addressing outstanding 'open items' as requested by clients
  • Preparation of look-ahead documents and weekly/monthly progress reports
  • Reviewing and monitoring job costs versus budgets
  • Understand, and work with procurement team to properly manage purchasing, receiving, and payment of materials and services
  • Report and communicate issues in a timely manner to management team, client and others as needed. Ability to provide valid and timely solutions.
  • Coordinate, and manage relationship, with engineering partner to include oversight of engineering deliverables, schedule, and communication to client
  • Effectively communicate plans, expectations, deliverables to team
  • Keeping emphasis on the client, develop an understanding of the client's culture, key people and processes
  • Provide guidance and direction for estimators during the estimation process
  • Interfaces with various staff to include field personnel and subcontractors
  • Accountable for successful completion of project including the safety of workers.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within boundaries of company policy and contract specifications. Confer with supervisors and foremen to discuss such matters as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
  • Ensure clear definition of project scope and deliverables.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of assigned projects. Create and execute project work plans.
  • Mediate between stakeholders and the project team.
  • Monitor and control project to ensure project is completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Identify and analyze problems, risks, and delays and implement corrective measures.
  • Represent the Company in project meetings and attend strategy meetings.
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts to protect the Company’s interest.
  • Requisition supplies and materials to complete project.
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, workers, and clients.
  • Track, review, and report project progress including costs, plan of the day and the project master schedule. Track, review and report cost and schedule variances.
  • Document and report lessons learned.
  • Properly close out assigned projects including project documentation.
  • Communicate milestones and pertinent up-to-date information about the project to various levels within the Company and the customer’s organization
  • Understand and comply with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience (5+ years’ project management in the electrical industry)
  • Previous project management experience with transmission, distribution, or substation construction projects is required. EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) project management experience is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable with specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services
  • Able to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include blue prints, proposals and other documents as they relate to electrical work
  • Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficient with estimating software such as Accubid or equivalent
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player who can successfully work with diverse internal and external partners
  • PMP Preferred
  • Contract Management – ability to read and understand contracts and complete the work in accordance to the contract documents including proper execution of the change order process.
  • Scheduling – be proficient in MS Project and Primavera and be fully capable of creating construction resource loaded schedules and managing a project in accordance with such.
  • Estimating – have the ability to understand project estimates and have the capability of putting together estimates for changes and additions to the project.
  • Billing – Responsibility of formulating invoices to the customer in accordance with the contract documents. This includes comprehensive tracking of completed units in the field, work in progress, and remaining work for all work including subcontracted work.
  • Subcontractor Management – Ability to manage subcontractors in accordance with sub contract agreement while maintaining positive relations.
  • JD Edwards – Effectively manage the labor log, units completed, cost codes, budget, purchase orders, and all components of managing a project using JDE process.
  • Construction Knowledge – Understand the work processes, tools of the trade, equipment, methods, and materials required to construct the project. This also includes the ability to discuss the project fluently with craft labor.
  • Knowledge of theoretical and practical project management methodologies, terms, and standards.
  • Knowledge of safety and security issues and regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to effectively deliver the message to a variety of audience levels.
  • Ability to coordinate own and others’ actions, manage own time, and manage personnel resources.
  • Strong understanding and expression of written and verbal English sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
  • Sensitivity to problems; ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Proven experience in change management.
  • Leadership - must have the ability to lead a group.
  • High degree of accuracy and exactness is extremely important in the performance of this job.
